What I want in a Disney Lorcana videogame…

Disney Lorcana is the hot new trading card game blowing up the world of tabletop games! At least I certainly hope so, I’ve certainly seen a lot of excitement from the Disney community about Disney’s leap into the world of trading card games where there are lots of competitors but the big boys are still Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering. Disney Lorcana currently only being available as a physical card game means I won’t be playing it anytime soon (not enough space, time, $ etc. for physical tabletop games honestly) but if it is a big success, a digital take on it in some form would seem inevitable, and instead of a simple mobile port, how about a full-blown videogame?

And before we get further, I do consider mobile games “real” games just as much as console games, and that’s actually why I want more for Disney Lorcana then what Disney tends to do with their mobile efforts. I mean games like Disney Heroes Battle Mode and especially Disney Sorcerors's Arena and even the more recent Marvel Snap hint at the potential of a full-blown RPG, card-based or otherwise, featuring Disney characters that isn’t Kingdom Hearts (which we don’t get those very often anyways, who knows when Kingdom Hearts IV is coming out) and it sucks that this there isn’t somebody out here making a kick-ass Disney card-game RPG.

Disney Lorcana’s art hints at a fantastic world with stories needing to be told, you could play as Disney characters for sure, a party filled with known characters with card-based abilities would work great (much like the excellent and underrated Marvel’s Midnight Suns) you could also go the route of being a character or characters that can collect the cards and use them in battle like a summons or special attacks, there’s a lot of ways you could go and they’d all be great.

But, what I really want in a digital representation of Disney Lorcana is to really see the world and story and lore the game already hints at even this early in its existence. It would be doing it a disservice to simply take this game as is and make it mobile and not do anything else with it. I’m not saying you can’t have a mobile version, that should probably exist as well, but some ambitious developer with a good grasp on card games should take a look at this and go hey that would make a great full-blown RPG, let’s pitch to Disney and Disney is pretty open to a wide variety of game pitches as of late so I think they’d be very into the idea. Disney Lorcana is just getting started so we’ll see where it goes but hopefully, it’s something that spreads beyond a tabletop game to its full potential as a franchise.

That’s it for today, I have a pretty busy week next week so might not have a post but come the second week of October I should be posting regularly so see ya real soon!
