What does 2024 look like for Disney games?

2023 was an incredible year for games (not so much for the people working in games but if you follow the industry you should be well aware of that). Games based on Disney properties were a pretty big part of this incredible year. You had huge games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. You had smaller games such as Disney’s Illusion Island, Tron: Identity, and Aliens: Dark Descent. A lot of different games that offered many different experiences. And while the far-off future looks potentially bright with games based on Indiana Jones, Iron Man, Black Panther, Wolverine, and more, that’s still off in future years. 2024 for games based on Disney properties is a much murkier picture.

Granted, 2024 hasn’t started yet, there are always announcements we don’t know about, but big games that are due to come out in the next 12 months we at least have generally heard of. And in 2024, for Disney games, it’s a lotta Star Wars. We got the Dark Forces Remaster coming at the end of February, the free-to-play shooter Star Wars: Hunters that was actually supposed to drop last year but now has some vague 2024 release date, and then easily the biggest Disney game we know of coming out next year, Star Wars Outlaws from Ubisoft.

Annnnndddd…. yeah that’s kinda it? There are a lot of things that might happen, like a follow-up to Tron: Identity, and maybe some remasters from places like Limited Run Games or Digital Eclipse, but 2024 is looking pretty bleak atm in terms of games based on your favorite Disney-owned properties.

There is some content coming for fans of Disney Dreamlight Valley and the recently released Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as both are getting significant expansion DLC next year, but if you aren’t already invested in those or have moved on, I don’t feel like those will draw you back in or get you on board.

Hopefully, 2024 will contain some surprises but unless you are really into Star Wars or Avatar, really doesn’t seem like much to look forward to in the next twelve months. Luckily, there are plenty of non-Disney games coming that look potentially amazing so those should keep you well-occupied while waiting for the likes of Insomniac’s Wolverine.

That’s it for today, and will almost definitely be it until at least February barring any big news breaking. I might not even have another post until the Dark Forces remaster drops at the very end of February depending on a few things so it might not really be until March until I get back into the full swing of things. Taking a little time to refresh, and I’ll see you somewhat soon!
