Star Wars Outlaws could find new life on the Switch 2…

Star Wars Outlaws came out of the gate a very different game than it is right now. Not unheard of but it’s rare for a game that majorly updates its mechanics to basically play very differently and then turn all that hard work into sales success.

And Star Wars Outlaws has indeed made some other efforts in order to increase initially disappointing sales including a big announcement of a Steam launch and some pretty significant discounts on all available platforms at the moment. But there is one more big step Ubisoft could try to truly give the game a good chance at finding a big audience…

Nintendo and Ubisoft have a tight relationship. If an Ubisoft game can work on a Nintendo platform, it usually ends up on there. Ubisoft also has a history of being a big supporter at the launch of new Nintendo platforms. It seems like there’s a big opportunity for Star Wars Outlaws in this case.

Historically, game selection at the launch of any new console is pretty abysmal. There is never a large selection of games, and many games take advantage of the newness of a new system and gamers hungry to build a library to have good sales off the bat regardless of the quality of said game.

Now, this is not to say Star Wars Outlaws is a bad game. I would not have played through the entire game (and thinking about going through it again in the future since I haven’t played the new updated mechanics) if it was. I simply think it was a flawed but unfairly maligned game that really deserves a second chance at success. And this brings us to the imminent launch of the successor to the Nintendo Switch.

There’s been some rumors and leaks, but officially, we don’t know much about the next Nintendo console besides three things. 1. It will be backwards compatible with the vast majority of Nintendo Switch games. 2. It will be more powerful than the Switch, but exactly what it can pull off is up for debate. 3. It will be out in 2025, making the next Nintendo console easily the biggest and most anticipated thing happening in videogames in the coming year.

Now, the next Nintendo console will not be as powerful as say the PS5 Pro. It probably won’t be quite as powerful as the base PS5 or the Xbox Series X to be frank. But the Nintendo Switch has been able to fit some remarkable games on that underpowered console that work quite well with only slight sacrifices.

Basically, if it is at all possible to put some complete edition of Star Wars Outlaws with all the DLC and whatever significant gameplay updates have been done on the next Nintendo console, Ubisoft should be making every effort to do so. It won’t outshine whatever prestige launch title Nintendo has ready for it, but it could easily be a standout amongst a bunch of disappointing games desperately trying to vie for those launch dollars and be the sales success it needs to continue the franchise. Maybe even as a Nintendo exclusive if need be. We don’t know exactly when the new Nintendo console is launching but it will need some good games to start it off on the right foot, so I sincerely hope Star Wars Outlwas is one of those games and purchasers of the new system latch onto it….

That’s all for today and unless something major happens in the world of Disney videogames, all for the rest of 2024. But 2025 is a short time away so see ya real soon and have a happy new year!
