Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Finished it earlier this week, and had a great time in my 30ish hours spent with it. Can’t wait for the next one. Not surprisingly, a big part of that was the supporting cast. Cal Kestis is a perfectly cromulent lead hero but he’s the kinda bland straight man to a whole host of mostly way more interesting characters. And I find the most interesting by a long shot to still be his kinda romantic interest, Merrin even though once again she still doesn’t get a lot of screen time in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Even with the relatively small amount of time you do get with her, it’s clear that in her time away from Cal and the rest of the Mantis crew, Merrin has been on quite the journey. She says as much but it’s more than just a new hairdo, she’s been places and experienced completely new things and met and helped new people, showing off new powers and hey even having a pretty good sense of humor. Don’t get me wrong, Star Wars Jedi is the Cal Kestis show and I have no problem with that continuing, but at the very least Merrin deserves a short one-shot spin-off in the vein of Uncharted: Lost Legacy or Spider-Man: Miles Morales. A relatively quick 10–15 hour adventure showing Merrin’s journey during her time away.

The building blocks are right there in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor already. Merrin gives some brief details about what she did that could easily be expanded upon but also her powers seem like things that could be adapted into their own game without too much trouble with the main mechanics centered around restoring broken structures to gain access to areas along with some great teleportation skills. The other really appealing aspect is frankly in Star Wars we don’t get a lot of exploration of other aspects of the force. It’s been established many beings and/or cultures are Force-sensitive or use The Force in a different manner than the Jedi or Sith do, let’s dig into that, see what that’s like.

It’ll probably be a long wait between the next full Star Wars Jedi game regardless, a mini-chapter would be a fun thing to experience in the meantime (as long as it’s not asking too much of the developers of course), and I maintain that Merrin is easily the strongest and most interesting character in the Star Wars Jedi series and more than worthy of getting her own spotlight.

That’s all for today but I played through the Storm DLC for Mavel’s Midnights Suns yesterday and definitely have some thoughts on that I will have up either tomorrow or Sunday so see ya real soon!
