If you are familiar with games, especially Disney games, you likely know the sad tale of Disney Infinity. Coming out right at the peak of the Toys-to-Life craze started by Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, Disney Infinity seemed primed to not only dominate the genre but have staying power others may have lacked.

Even before the acquisition of massively popular IPs like Marvel and Star Wars, Disney was a household name with tons of recognizable characters people loved. It seemed like a perfect fit for a game where you buy figures based on those characters and had them all play together in a video game. And it was. Disney Infinity was pretty much a smash hit out of the gate even if people had quibbles with some of the gameplay, it was an incredibly ambitious game that let you play with your favorite characters in really cool ways.

Sadly, the quick success fell apart for several reasons. The two biggest being a bunch of weird restrictions and rules that had to be followed with the overlapping brands, including despite the idea that they were all in this game, they couldn’t just be in each other’s worlds hanging out like you’d want in addition to a ton of figures no one really wanted or were overproduced. It was shuttered just a mere two years after its release.

However, in that span of time and despite all the challenges that were faced, Disney Infinity became and still remains arguable the ultimate Disney game for Disney fans. It’s a huge celebration of everything Disney, with incredibly deep, varied and lengthy gameplay.

Right now, we all need a long term thing to keep us busy, and if you are a Disney fan, Disney Infinity is just the ticket, with various levels of engagement to keep you going. There are the various playsets, the open-ended Toybox mode where you can get incredibly creative, and for the collector in some of us, a pretty significant amount of really well-done figures. That can almost be a time-consuming hobby in and of itself. The best part is how affordable it all is. Disney Infinity is discontinued, sure. But there were a lot of game discs pressed and a lot of figures made so you can get going really cheap and have a small collection or a really massive one (just be sure to buy online and disinfect upon arrival in this uncertain time obviously). It’s a hobby that you can be super casual or very serious about and that’s great.

But what if you don’t want to spend the time or have space or a more limited budget? Well, there’s a pretty great alternative as long as you have a PC. Steam offers a bundle of literally everything (all the characters, content, extra discs that give power-ups, etc) digitally for just $60. That’s the version I have and it’s great. It does go on sale every now and again but the next time might be a few months from now when hopefully you don’t necessarily need some huge new game to take over your life for a little while (or at least it’s a completely new one). It’s an astounding amount of content for the standard price as is.

Finally, there’s an endpoint. Only so much content was made, only so many figures were released. At some point, you’ll be done, so it’s not something that’s a forever thing, it’s a thing that will take up a good chunk of your time for a little while. That seems like the perfect thing for right now.

So if you are looking for a new thing to get into, enjoy Disney and video games, now seems like an incredibly good time to get into the ultimate Disney game, Disney Infinity. That’s all for now, see ya real soon!
