Minnie Mouse deserves her own “Showtime”

After many many years of at best being a side or ensemble character (and most often the damsel in distress), Nintendo’s Princess Peach finally gets a second game she stars in that just recently came out in Princess Peach Showtime! It is inarguably long overdue and hopefully, this very capable Princess gets more spotlight opportunities in the future.

But this game coming out reminds me of another iconic character that has never really gotten a starring role in a video game and also often been merely the damsel in distress, and for a much longer period, the legendary Minnie Mouse!

Minnie Mouse certainly has consistent representation in Disney videogames, she has a role in the extremely popular Kingdom Hearts series and pops up in many mobile titles as a playable character and also as a playable character in the excellent Disney Illusion Island. But again she’s never really gotten a chance to shine on her own and she’s been an extremely popular character for decades I think she certainly has a fanbase that would be up for a well-made game that she stars in.

Who would be the right developer for such a project, though? I actually believe the team behind the game with Minne’s most recent console appearance is the perfect team to make a solo game starring her, Dlala Studios, who developed Disney Illusion Island.

The basic building blocks are pretty much there already, though they don’t play differently, each character gains new abilities throughout the game that allows them to perform new feats, reach new areas, etc. A game focused on one character, specifically Minnie in this case, with an expanded array of abilities she can learn, be they represented by various costumes she can change into or other means. It seems like a pretty slam-dunk formula if executed properly. It doesn’t even need to be a game on the scale of Princess Peach Showtime!, a relatively short game, it can be 4 or 5 hours long and that would be perfect (though if warranted a 8 to10-hour Minnie Mouse game would be great as well)

The bottom line is, whether it’s a platformer in the vein of Princess Peach Showtime! Or some other genre, Disney’s most enduring female mascot is long overdue for her own starring role in a videogame. Heck, maybe if by some miracle the upcoming Epic Mickey: Rebrushed is a massive success, we can have an Epic Minnie?

That’s it for today, I have a rather busy month or so for April so there might only be 2 or 3 entries but regardless see ya real soon!
