Five DLC Characters I’d Like to See in Marvel Cosmic Invasion…

5 min readApr 10, 2025

Nintendo had two pretty impressive Directs recently for both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 respectively. One of the best surprises to come out of either was certainly the announcement of Marvel Cosmic Invasion by Dot Emu, a 90s-Style beat ‘em up by the same people who brought you Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, Streets of Rage 4 along with many other games done in a retro style with more modern touches. Clearly this game is in very good hands and people have reason to be very excited when it comes not only to the Nintendo Switch but pretty much every other platform this holiday season.

And while the initial line-up of heroes to play looks pretty solid. there’s always room for more. Here are five DLC characters I’d love to see added to Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion:

#5. Howard The Duck

Frankly, I just really like Howard, and think he should be featured in more things. But also, I believe beat-em ups with multiple characters should have one really fun out there character and Howard fits that bill perfectly. He’s got a lot of potential to be a really interesting character to play, especially if he can use his “Iron Duck” suit for special attacks. I realize he might be a challenge to implement, specifically because “Quack Fu” is a really vaguely defined thing but all the more reason for Dot Emu to rise to the challenge here.

#4. Nico Minrou

In a Marvel game that has an ensemble cast, you should probably have someone who represents the mystic. And sure, you could have Doctor Strange, but that’s the obvious, boring choice. Runaways alum Nico Minrou (who is also featured in the excellent game Marvel’s Midnight Suns and the recent animated show Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man) is a much fresher idea. There’s a lot of possibilities with Nico simply using the Staff of One itself as a weapon and then extend that to a few magic-based attacks, and you’ve got a pretty versatile character.

#3. Ghost Rider

C’Mon, we need Ghost Rider in more stuff. He was also great in the recent Marvel’s Midnight Suns game, but seems like a really natural fit for a brawler with his hellfire chains alone giving a lot of combat possibilities. I picked the Robbie Reyes version as that’s been the one featured recently in games and Marvel’s Agents of Shield but any version would work. If it could be incorporated into the game though, Reyes’ ability to use the chains like a sling ring and teleport himself and/or enemies and objects could have some fun possibilities as well making him the most ideal of the MCU characters to host the spirit of vengeance for Marvel Cosmic Invasion.

#2. Star Lord

Granted, Nova is in Marvel Cosmic Invasion, but it would seem a bit weird to have a Marvel game that is dealing with a “cosmic” threat (hence the title) and it not feature at least one Guardian of the Galaxy. And while other members of the team all could certainly be included, I feel like the one that fits the best for a game like Marvel Cosmic Invasion would absolutely be Star Lord, the leader of the Guardians, because of his wonderful toys frankly. Besides his trademark guns, he’s got a lot of neat little tricks up his sleeve with various devices that would make him more interesting than say Drax, Groot or Gamora (not necessarily more than Rocket, but I think Rocket would be a better fit for a shooter). But either way I think a Cosmic Invasion needs a Guardian of the Galaxy helping out and Star Lord is the best choice in my humble opinion.

#1. Ms. Marvel

In part thanks to the amazing performance every time she pops up the the MCU played by Iman Vellani, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel should be one of the central characters in Marvel right now. But even without Vellani’s performance, she’s easily been one of the best Marvel characters in the last few decades and that should be recognized by featuring her in more things like videogames. She was the focus of the really strong single-player campaign of the recent Marvel’s Avengers game but since that didn’t perform too well not many got to experience it.

Additionally, whether it’s the comic book or MCU version, her powers are pretty ripe for a Beat em up be they energy-projecting or the strecthy shapeshifting sort. I also feel like despite the seriousness of a cosmic-level threat, Marvel Cosmic Invasion will still have a sense of fun about it and few Marvel characters exude fun like Ms. Marvel.

Ok that’s the list of five characters I’d like to see as DLC in Marvel’s Cosmic Invasion. But frankly, Dot Emy could add like 30 characters and I’d probably want all of them there are a lot of possibilities and Marvel’s roster is far deeper than say The Ninja Turtles. As next week is Easter and I’ve got some plans, I’ll likely be taking that off from writing unless some major Disney videogame news happens but I will most definitely get in at least one more post before the end of April so see ya real soon!
