Disney Dreamlight Valley: Do we ever need to solve The Forgetting?

Disney Dreamlight Valley has been chugging right along but this week it released one of its more significant updates of the year, promising to provide a pretty major update to the overall mystery at the center of the game. Yeah, you might’ve forgotten in-between fetch quests for your friends, cooking, gardening, and decorating landscapes that there is actually a somewhat spooky and slightly disturbing plot at the center of Disney’s own take on Animal Crossing, in that most of the villagers straight up disappeared and can’t really remember what happened even when they come back.

Now, I’ve barely dipped my toes into the newest update, ran around a little cleaning up, met the Fairy Godmother (we finally know who’s been in that pumpkin!), and looked at the various star path and cosmetics on offer. But even if this is a big update and revelation in the mystery of The Forgetting, Disney Dreamlight Valley has been drip-feeding us this story for coming close to a year now, and given that the game is still actually in Early Access, I kinda doubt it’s going to come to any kind of resolution anytime soon. But also, ehhhhh does it matter that much?

Don’t get me wrong, I have a genuine interest in the mystery at the heart of Disney Dreamlight Valley. It’s kinda nice that they even bothered to craft a story reason as you could’ve easily just had a valley where various Disney characters come to live and you do various favors for them and become friends with no plot whatsoever. But it’s just kind of a nice bonus if that ever gets resolved. If I came to Disney Dreamlight Valley mostly because I was interested in the mystery at the center of it, I probably would’ve dropped off a long time ago because as I said they have really just drip-fed that part of the game since launch.

I am someone who usually plays through the updated content and then stops for a while as opposed to someone playing continuously since launch, but I feel that’s a pretty good pace to play the game at. It remains pretty fun to interact with my Disney pals new and old. And while I care about The Forgetting, I really think about it when it gets addressed. It would be nice if eventually, the game moves onto some new central story but I don’t think it’s a big deal if The Forgetting is ever fully resolved.

That’s really all for today, but we have several pretty significant gaming showcases happening in the next several days so if there’s something worth writing about in terms of Disney games, I will certainly do so. It may be an overall summation of what was at all the showcases, or multiple smaller entries depending on how much we see at the various showcases, we’ll just have to wait and see what’s there. Either way, see ya real soon!
