An Introduction…

Hey all, before I do my first post on an actual topic, I thought it would be a good idea to give you an idea of what this project is about. I have always been a huge fan of video games, and while my love of Disney waxed and waned over time, it’s grown again in a huge way in the last decade (no doubt thanks to a bigger media presence, but also several trips to Disney World and my wife who is a gigantic Disney fan that constantly watches Disney vlogger videos and is perpetually planning our next trip no matter how far off it may be).

I have been writing about video games for quite a few years now in some form, but I really wanted to do something that stood out from the usual stuff and had a distinct angle, something that was a more narrow focus so I don’t have to try and keep up with everything going on, but still broad enough for me to produce plenty of content about. I was also getting back into retro games in the last couple of years in a much bigger way than I ever have. I’ve been playing video games for over 30 years and love going back to older stuff but it’s more often been through modern re-releases/collections and then I started investing heavily in things like Analogue’s 16-bit clone machines and cables that make a PS2 work on an HDTV and so on. I, of course, considered being someone who created content, streaming or otherwise based on retro games, but again there’s a lot of people who already do that so how could I stand out from that crowd as well?

After brainstorming on this for a while it had occurred to me that while plenty of people create content about older Disney games (and more modern stuff like Kingdom Hearts), that wasn’t the focus, and they mostly played the well-known classics. There are a ton of older Disney games nobody even talks about, and maybe there’s a reason for that, but it seemed like a fun idea to put more of a spotlight on the more obscure or just forgotten show and movie tie-ins, and even original stuff when Disney was still in the business of making their own games as well as covering the more well-known series and modern products. Also while I will definitely be focused on the more core Disney products, the recent acquisitions of Star Wars, Marvel and especially most of Fox’s entertainment properties open up a whole ton of possibilities to cover even more past, present and future video games based on the properties.

Disney Infinity

So, this blog is the latest extension of my project, Main Street Electrical Arcade. There’s a twitter: https://twitter.com/ArcadeMain, there’s an Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arcademain30/, and now a blog to write out more developed thoughts and ideas that don’t really fit those other venues. I do also have a twitch & YouTube channel that I currently use very infrequently but I expect that to ramp up later in the year and will plug when appropriate. The blog will be a mix of opinions on news on the latest Disney games, reviews of classic and modern releases (look for a review of the Kingdom Hearts 3 DLC, ReMind soon and I’ll start reviewing some retro games soon after that), as well as rankings articles (i.e. ranking the Kingdom Hearts games is an obvious one, but more often something like ranking al the games based on the Cars movies or the Kim Possible games) and so on when that occurs to me/I, have the time.

To sum up, this blog will be about Disney games past, present and future. Good and bad, fondly remembered and obscure. All of it, eventually I would ideally have the most complete and up to date Disney games library in existence. That takes time and money, but it also likely means it’ll give me lots of unique content for years to come. Hopefully, it’ll be a lot of fun and you’ll join me on this journey. This blog should be updated at least once a week, but I do have two specific things I want to post about over the next couple of days so look for those shortly. Thanks for stopping by, see you real soon!
