E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo is upon us! Not just E3, but other stuff happening right before E3, not long after E3, and heck other stuff may drop during E3 that’s not connected to the event just to get some lift off the general overall hype.

Some big names like Sony are nowhere to be found but there’s also plenty of games that we will be seeing either for the first time or for the first time in awhile so plenty to be potentially excited about. Some of these will almost definitely be games based on a Disney IP. So with that in mind, here are five games we might see during this year’s event at one of the many showcases going on:

Honorable Mention: Marvel’s Avengers: War for Wakanda

Not a full game but a major expansion and arguably the last chance for Marvel’s Avengers, a game that no matter your opinion of it has had difficulty finding a real foothold since launch, pretty much has to be at this year’s E3, most likely shown during Square Enix’s presentation which is Sunday afternoon following Xbox’s showcase. Black Panther is obviously a hugely popular character, more so now than ever, this will be the first game that really features Wakanda as a major setting, we finally get a new villain in Klaw and a bunch of other stuff.

We still don’t have a release date for War for Wakanda, what’s more, the much-vaunted PlayStation exclusive hero Spider-Man has been nowhere to be seen. If Square Enix really wants any chance of salvaging the game (and hey I’ve spent over 100 hours on Marvel’s Avengers I would love a good reason to spend 100 more) they need to really have a solid release date for the expansion, Spider-Man and probably make the long-overdue move of throwing this game on Gamepass and PlayStation Plus for at least a time to get more people on board. Hopefully, we get to see all this in an impressive manner at E3 2021.

#5. Indiana Jones

If I was more sure about this game being shown at this year’s E3, I’d honestly probably rank it higher, possibly near the top. But the fact is all we got was an incredibly brief announcement trailer that a new Indiana Jones game was being developed by Bethesda, specifically Machine Games which is known for Wolfenstein so that might give us some indication of what type of game we might have to look forward to.

I think there is a chance we’ll get our first-ever actual glimpse of the game at the Xbox showcase, specifically because it’s literally being labeled as the Xbox-Bethesda showcase so what better chance to show off your attempt at a franchise that hasn’t had a new game in over a decade, but that is super dependent on how far along in development the game is. Both Microsoft and Bethesda have plenty of other games they can show so if this one isn’t anywhere near ready or years off they can just hold it back for now. So there’s a possibility of seeing a new Indiana Jones game during this year’s E3, I just wouldn’t place the odds as high.

#4. Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Square Enix will almost definitely be having the Avengers show up at their E3 presentation, but there’s another MCU team likely to make an appearance as well. Square Enix does have a deal for multiple Marvel games in place and it seems that we will finally see their next one at this year’s E3 and it will in fact feature the Guardians of the Galaxy. Much like Avengers it probably won’t be directly based on the cinematic version of the characters, more an amalgamation of their various incarnations.

We don’t really know much else at this point except that it likely will not be a game heavily focused on having a live-service element like Avengers does and will most likely be developed by Eidos Montreal, who also did Avengers but that has a really solid single-player campaign so if it’s something more in that vein it’s definitely something to look forward too.

#3. A new Kingdom Hearts game (but not 4)

Are you ready for the next chapter in the Kingdom Hearts saga? Well, odds are you’ll see some new entry in this vaunted Disney RPG franchise but it won’t be a proper full sequel. It’ll be some side story or something that is a sort of prequel that takes place between the second and third game or hell maybe it will be a kart racer but it most likely will not be the next proper full chapter of IP-hopping adventures with Sora and company. I don’t think we’ll have to wait for another decade-plus for the next proper entry, but I don’t see it happening in the next year or so.

#2. Too many Star Wars games

Maybe the movies are on a short hiatus but in any other medium, we are getting a flood of Star Wars content. TV shows, novels, comics, and video games that if they aren’t out now will be in the near future. Electronic Arts had exclusive rights to the franchise for a while but that agreement is winding down and other companies seem eager to try and be one with The Force.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has surprisingly suffered from numerous delays and is nowhere to be seen. It’s probably the only game that will encompass all nine mainline movies so that alone should be worth checking out. It would be incredibly hard to imagine it doesn’t at least get a new trailer somewhere this week with a new date that’s sometime in the latter half of this year.

Ubisoft has announced a Star Wars game in development by Massive Entertainment, who makes The Division series, but much like Indiana Jones we haven’t gotten much more than an announcement, so who knows how far along that is (though Ubisoft also has a record of showing games that are super early and may change a lot before they actually release so that increases the odds we’ll see something).

The rest are games that have been rumored but nothing confirmed like a Star Wars Battlefront 3 and a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, possibly a game based on The Mandalorian that might even be an Xbox exclusive, maybe we’ll even see that Knights of the Old Republic remake that’s basically been confirmed to be happening but we haven’t actually seen any footage of it yet. Bottom line, I’d be extremely surprised if we don’t see multiple Star Wars games shown at this year’s E3.

#1. Marvel X-Com

This seems to be the one most likely to appear at this year’s E3 and also the one that appeals to me the most as I absolutely love turn-based RPG tactics games, so one starring Marvel characters from a developer known for critically acclaimed turn-based strategy RPGs seems like an easy winner. One question what the setup will be and how powers will work and all that but honestly as long as it’s fun, that’s all I need.

I do hope it doesn’t rely too much on the X-Com formula of constantly managing a base and having to run against a clock and just more on the combat aspect because I always have trouble keeping up with those aspects. Either way, it seems like both the most likely Disney game we will see at this year’s E3 and the one I’m most excited for.

And that’s the list. E3 2021 and various other shows surrounding it are already underway so hopefully, we are all seeing lots of fun reveals and plenty of reasons to be excited about the future of video games! That’s all for now, see ya real soon!
