2025 Will likely be a quiet year for Disney games…

(Indiana Jones, a December 2024 release on PC and Xbox, already looks to be one of the biggest Disney games of 2024 with a PS5 release this Spring)

2024 certainly wasn’t a quiet year for Disney games. We had some cool remasters such as Star Wars: Dark Forces Remastered & Epic Mickey Rebrushed. Star Wars Outlaws was a big release that I enjoyed and am looking forward to going through again with its significant gameplay updates and new expansions. Marvel Rivals was a huge hit late in the year and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a late GOTY contender.

But still, it felt quieter than in some recent years where it was hard to keep up with all the new games based on some IP that Disney owns. And while some surprises could certainly come our way, 2025 looks to be an even quieter year mostly filled with expansions, smaller titles and another remaster or two.

We only know of one remaster for next year at this point, and it’s an odd choice given the wealth of Star Wars titles that have yet to be made available for modern consoles that Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles is the next thing remaster powerhouse Aspyr chose to go with. But hey this game also really embraces the goofy side of Star Wars in a way the modern age has not and could use to do again frankly. It should be fun for a few sessions at least when it drops in January assuming the remaster is good.

I’m sure Marvel Rivals has a big 2025 roadmap but as I haven’t gotten around to trying it yet (and I may or may not to be honest) I haven’t paid attention to it. But content roadmaps seem to be some of the biggest Disney content you’ll see this year with another big story DLC for Star Wars Outlaws and Disney Dreamlight Valley nicely chugging along with more quarterly content updates. Nothing super exciting but hey more content for people who like those games and that’s me.

Really, the only new game based on a Disney IP we know for sure is coming out in 2025 is a small title but one I’m super excited for, and that’s Tron: Catalyst. Never been a huge fan of the movies but the game output for Tron has been fairly solid. I really enjoyed Tron: Identity, and Tron: Catalyst looks like Hades but with Tron stuff so I’m fully onboard.

And yes otherwise, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, a game already available on Xbox and PC, might still be the biggest Disney game of 2025 simply because it’s got huge buzz going right now and that will carry to the Spring PS5 release to frankly a wider audience. Hell if Microsoft can figure out a way to get this game on the Switch 2, it’s likely going to end up on there as well. But it’s not a great sign for Disney games when what’s looking to be your biggest release in the coming year is a game that’s already out on a couple major platforms. There will at least be a story expansion so you’ll get more chances to solve ancient mysteries while beating up fascists if you have finished the game and are thirsty for more.

And for most of the past year, it’s been complete radio silence on some of the biggest announced games which means there’s virtually no chance they are coming out in 2025. Wolverine, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, and especially Kingdom Hearts IV all seem like games we will still be waiting a very long time for. That seems to leave a pretty big gap for any new top-tier AAA or frankly even AA titles based on Disney properties in the coming year. Hopefully, we get some surprises but I expect aside from whatever we are getting in the first year of a new Nintendo Switch 2025 is going to be a pretty quiet year for videogames in general…

That’s all for today. I most likely will be squeezing in one more post before the end of the year so see ya real soon and have a happy holiday!
